400 flights canceled in Canada, 49 thousand passengers affected

Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association members began strike Friday evening because of airline's unwillingness to negotiate with union.

Canada flights cancelation news, 49 thousand Indian passengers affected: WestJet, Canada's second-largest airline, cancelled more than 400 flights after its maintenance workers union announced a strike. 

This has affected over 49,000 passengers.

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association said its members began the strike Friday evening because of the airline's unwillingness to negotiate with the union.

International and domestic flights were affected due to this. WestJet aircraft maintenance engineer Sean McVay, who is picketing at Toronto's Pearson International Airport, said the workers' strike is an effort to force the airline to negotiate respectfully. 

McVay said the union regrets any inconvenience caused to passengers.
