The operation, which applies to all communities, aims to target those who deceive or mislead the public under the guise of religious affiliation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh, stated, “Under Operation Kalanemi, today, while taking action in various police station areas, police have arrested 34 fake babas roaming around in the guise of saints and sages, against whom legal action is being taken under the Indian Justice Security Code. Among the arrested fake babas, 23 are residents of other states.”
Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had also posted on X, saying, “Strict instructions have been given to officials to launch Operation Kalanemi against pseudo-disguised individuals who deceive people and play with their sentiments under the guise of Sanatan Dharma.”
He further added that recent incidents have revealed how anti-social elements, posing as sadhus and saints, are deceiving the public, especially targeting women.
“This not only hurts people’s religious sentiments but also tarnishes the image of social harmony and the Sanatan tradition,” CM Dhami noted.

“The Uttarakhand government is fully committed to protecting public sentiments, preserving the dignity of Sanatan culture, and maintaining social harmony. Those who spread hypocrisy in the name of faith will not be spared under any circumstances,” he asserted.
