Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand: At least 50 people are reported missing after a cloudburst triggered a massive mudslide in Dharali village, located in the KheerGanga area near Harsil. The disaster washed away approximately 40–50 houses, according to initial reports.
Mohsen Shahedi, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), told ANI, “Three NDRF teams have been dispatched to the area. Each team consists of 35 well-equipped personnel ready to carry out rescue operations. According to the initial information, around 40–50 houses have been swept away, and over 50 people are currently missing.”
He added, “A large-scale rescue operation will have to be carried out in the region.”
The Indian Army was the first to respond to the emergency, and has already rescued around 20 individuals, an Army official confirmed.
The cloudburst triggered a sudden surge of water and debris through the village, leading to widespread destruction.
