The criminal, identified as Shahrukh Pathan, was wanted in multiple cases of murder and extortion, and had reportedly been absconding for years. He was previously jailed and had a long history of criminal activity.

A resident of Khalapar in Muzaffarnagar, Pathan was known to be a trusted shooter of the Sanjeev Jeeva gang. He was reportedly arrested after the 2015 murder of Asif Jayda at Muzaffarnagar railway station. It was during his time in jail that he came into contact with both Mukhtar Ansari and Sanjeev Jeeva, eventually aligning himself with Jeeva’s criminal network.

In 2016, Pathan escaped police custody in Muzaffarnagar. The following year, on Jeeva’s instructions, he allegedly murdered a Haridwar-based blanket trader named Goldie. Later, he was also accused of murdering Asif Jayda's father, a key witness in the earlier murder case, near Muzaffarnagar’s Kotwali police station.

Pathan was subsequently arrested and convicted along with Jeeva in the Goldie murder case and sentenced to life imprisonment.
After being released on bail around six months ago, Pathan allegedly resumed criminal activities, including threatening and attempting to eliminate witnesses involved in ongoing murder trials. A fresh case of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation was registered against him in Sambhal district, where he had once again gone underground.

According to reports, on July 14, the Special Task Force (STF) from Meerut traced him to the Chapar police station area. During the operation, Pathan was critically injured in an exchange of fire and later declared dead at the hospital.

Police recovered the following items from his possession:
•    A .30 bore Beretta pistol
•    A .32 bore revolver
•    A country-made 9 mm pistol
•    A white Brezza car without a number plate
•    Seven live 9 mm cartridges
•    Ten live .32 bore cartridges
•    Forty-six live .30 bore cartridges
•    Six empty .32 bore shells

Pathan’s death marks a significant development in the crackdown on remnants of the criminal empires once run by Mukhtar Ansari and Sanjeev Jeeva.
