UT police arrested vehicle thief, six two-wheelers recovered

Chandigarh: The Crime Branch of the UT police has arrested a vehicle thief and recovered six stolen two-wheelers from his possession. The accused had escaped from the Punjab Police custody in 2015 and was living in Chandigarh.

The police said the accused, Rakesh, alias Billa, a resident of Saketri village, Panchkula district, was arrested from near Punjab University. The police claimed to have recovered six two-wheelers from different part of the city.

Police officials said Rakesh is a hardcore criminal. A murder case was also registered against him in 2013 at the Nayagaon police station. After the trial, he was sentenced with life imprisonment. 

While he was being brought from the Nabha Jail to the District Courts, Mohali in December, 2015 in an another case of robbery he escaped from the police custody.

Meanwhile, the police has solved three cases of vehicle theft with the arrest of the accused.
