
Ten persons were killed in four road accidents in the border districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran in the past 24 hours.
Five car-borne persons, including two children, died on the Beas flyover
after the vehicle crashed into a sugarcane-loaded trailer.
The deceased were identified as Surjit Singh (70), Japjot Singh (4), his mother Simranjit Kaur (32), Gurpreet Kaur and Noor (3). The injured Harwinder Singh, Prem Kaur and car driver Karnail Singh were admitted to nearby hospitals.
SHO of Beas police station said that the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Baljinder Singh, tehsildar, who reached the spot, said the bodies would be handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
Three persons, including a couple from Moga, were killed in an accident. The couple was identified as Bhagwan Das (63) and wife Saroj Rani (60). Harnek Singh, driver of the car died too. The family was on its way to Radha Soami Satsang Beas when a speeding truck collided with the car.
Another incident occur on the
Tarn Taran-Amritsar road.
Ranjit Singh (30) died and his cousin, Sukhchain Singh, was injured in the incident. They were going to
Gurdwara Tahla Sahib when an Indica collided with their motorcycle.
In a fourth incident, Harcharan Singh (75), a granthi of the gurdwara
died in an accident near his native village, Piddi.
He was returning home on a bicycle when an unidentified vehicle hit him and ran away.
