Amritsar: The SGPC today unveiled portraits of three Sikh warriors — Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh, Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh and Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora — at its Central Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple complex today.

Regarding this matter, SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar said the area from Beas to Amritsar would have been part of Pakistan which has not shown courage to Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh and Marshal Arjan Singh during the 1965 India-Pak war.

Similarly, it was Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora in whose presence 93,000 Pakistani forces surrendered. I appeal to PM Narendra Modi to approach the neighbouring country to ensure the PoWs’ release,” he said.

Adding on, he said that to inspire the younger generation, we have decided to distribute these booklets among the children getting education in our 60 schools, 40 colleges and two engineering colleges and two universities.

While the family members of these soldiers could not attend the ceremony, their former colleagues Surjit Singh from England and Subedar Dalbir Singh were present. The SGPC presented them siropas.

It is for the first time that the SGPC recognised the contribution of Indian Army soldiers. Established in 1958, the museum exhibits paintings of Sikh gurus, saints, Sikh warriors and other prominent Sikh leaders who have contributed to the community and religion.
