Chandigarh: A separate cadre of teachers would be formed for the border areas in the state to increase the number of teaching staff in schools of those regions, the Punjab Assembly was informed today.

Posting of such teachers, transfer and promotion would be in border area schools only, state Education Minister Aruna Chaudhary said during the question hour on the second day of Assembly's winter session.

Tarn Taran legislator Dharambir Agnihotri had raised a question regarding formulation of separate education policy for children in border areas. The minister said the proposed cadre would include border districts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Ferozepur and Fazilka.

Under the proposal, appointment, transfer and promotion of teachers belonging to this cadre would be done in schools of border areas which would lead to a meeting of the shortfall of the teaching staff in these schools.
