Police booked a sarpanch and BDO for bungling govt grant

The Amritsar rural police have booked a sarpanch and Block Development Officer (BDO) of the Attari block for allegedly bungling a government grant of Rs 5.99 lakh.

A complaint in this connection was filed. The grant was issued for the pension of elderly and widows. The accused have been identified as Gurmej Singh, sarpanch of Malluwal village; and Bhupinder Singh, BDO, Attari. 

A case under Section 409 of the IPC and Sections 7 (13) and 1-C of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against them, said the police. 

Police officials said further investigations were under progress. The complaint was lodged after an inquiry conducted by an official of the department.
