Phagwara Superintendent of Police Parminder Singh Bhandal said Tarlochan Singh Bains, a Canada-based NRI, and Lakhvir Singh, a resident of Bathinda district, were arrested. He said that Bains had given his ancestral house to Jinderpal Singh for living and taking care. Now the NRI wanted Jinderpal to vacate it but the latter got a stay from the court, he said.

Bhandal said that NRI contacted Sarabjit Singh alias Babbu for getting the house vacated.   Babbu's men broke open the door of the house and barged into it in the early hours and opened fire in which Amandeep, a nephew of Jinderpal, was injured, he said. They also stole valuables from the house but these were recovered from NRI's another house in locality Baba Gadhiya, he said.
