Chandigarh: Haryana Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu today accused former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his MP son Deepender Hooda of spreading lies about the financial condition of the state.

"The father-son duo are trying to misguide people through false and misleading statements," the minister said.

He alleged the 10 years of the previous Congress government people were mired in "rampant corruption, nepotism and casteism".

"They are not only spreading casteism but are also vitiating the atmosphere of brotherhood in the name of Jat agitation," he alleged.

Rubbishing allegations that the BJP government splurged Rs 1,600 crore on swarna jayanti celebrations of the state, Abhimanyu said Rs 100 crore had been earmarked for the celebrations, of which Rs 90 crore was allocated to the Sports and Youth Affairs Department and Rs 10 crore to the Swarna Jayanti Celebrations Authority.

The amount includes awards given to artistes and sports persons, he said. On Deepender Hooda's remark that the economy of the state grew by 36 per cent during their tenure, Abhimanyu said the MP had a "skewed" understanding of economic matters.

While the BJP believed in doing work, the Congress believes in issuing "false" statements to mislead people, he said.

He also denounced the previous government for "working irresponsibly", as a result of which institutions like Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), power utilities and cooperative banks were "reeling under financial crunch".
