Five road mishaps amid smoggy weather in Bathinda

Bathinda: Four persons lost their lives and three sustained severe injuries in five road mishaps amid smoggy weather in the district. The smog has reduced the visibility on the roads, causing frequent accidents. The first accident took place on Bathinda-Dabhwali road in front of Ganpati Enclave.

A jawan, Dheeraj Singh (24) of Seekar, Rajasthan, deployed in Srinagar was going from Chandigarh to his native place when the taxi he was travelling in met with the mishap, resulting in his death. The driver, Gurdial Singh (32) too died. Kulwinder Singh, SHO, Canal Colony police station, said the police got the information at around 4 am.

In another mishap, Bagga Singh, a resident of Bagha village, was killed in a road accident in the same village in Talwandi Sabo subdivision. His uncle, Gurdit Singh of Bagha village, stated in his complaint to Raman police station that the bike-borne victim was hit by a bus coming from “wrong” side last night.

The police have registered a case against Chamkor Singh, a resident of Bhundar village, who was driving the bus, under Sections 304-A, 337, 338, 279 and 427 of the IPC. Meanwhile in another incident, a driver, Jaswinder Singh, was run over near Mittal Mall. His wife Rajbir Kaur, a resident of Teelanwali village in Fazilka district, alleged that Jaswinder was sleeping under his vehicle (canter) after unloading goods when his colleague Sonu Kumar, a resident of Satirwala in Fazilka district, mowed him down while reversing the canter.

Jaswinder died on the spot. A case under Section 304-A of the IPC has been registered at Kotwali police station against Sonu Kumar.

A bus hit two boys near Sidana village, leaving them critically injured. Complainant Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Sidana village, said he was going with his friend Harjinder Singh, a resident of Sidana village, on a motorcycle (PB-10-BG-2824) when the bus of Gurpreet Transport Company hit them.

The Phul police have registered a case under Sections 279, 337 and 427 of the IPC against Pardeep Singh, a resident of Salabatpura village.

In another mishap, Sharanjeet Singh of Malout road, Bathinda, was injured today morning on the Malout road overbridge when his bike hit the footpath due to low visibility.

Three days ago, eight persons, including three school students, were injured after a van of Akal Academy, situated in Jagah Ram Tirath village, rammed into a tractor-trailer due to smog on the Talwandi Sabo-Rama Mandi road yesterday.
