Spokesman News Service, Chandigarh, October 31: The Punjab Government today observed 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' (National Unity Day) throughout the state to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Punjab Chief Secretary Mr Karan Avtar Singh administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to the officers and staff of the Punjab Civil Secretariat-1.

He said, "All of us should dedicate ourselves to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the country and also strive hard to spread this message among all fellow countrymen". In his inaugural address, the Principal Secretary of General Administration Mr. Jaspal Singh said that Sardar Patel, known as the Iron Man of India, played a prominent role in the freedom struggle of the country and actively participated in building a united and independent nation.

The state government employees also pledged to contribute towards ensuring the internal security of the country. The employees also remembered the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel towards nation building. Prominent amongst those present on the occasion were the Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner Revenue Mr. M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary Finance Mr. Anirudh Tiwari, Secretary Tourism and Cultural Affairs Mr. Vikas Partap, Special Secretary Personnel Ms.Neelima, and Director Hospitality Mr. Moneesh Kumar.
