Chandigarh: The Punjab State Information Commission today ordered the Public Information Officer Doctor to pay a fine of Rs.10 thousand. Commission also instructed to Office of Civil Surgeon Mohali to give a compensation of Rs. 5 thousand to the complainant as a public authority. A spokesperson of the Commission said that this order has been passed by State Information Commissioner Mr. Yashvir Mahajan on a complaint Number 748/2017 of Tej Kaur W/o Randhir Singh resident of House No. 29, top floor, SIHFW complex Phase 6 Mohali.

The spokesman said that Tej Kaur had sought information regarding a case from Civil Hospital Mohali under Right to Information Act (RTI) but the then Public Information Officer Dr. Karamjit Singh forensic expert (Now posted as additional assistant commissioner Roopnagar under-training), arbitrarily delayed to give information. Despite the intervention of the State Information Commission, the matter remained pending for a year.

The spokesman said that during the hearing of the case, the Public Information Officer refused to give the information on the pretext of state property. When the Information Commission ordered to give the information, Dr. Karamjit Singh on the next hearing requested the Commission that a record has been lost during the transit period. FIR had been registered in this regard. The Commission has rejected the plea and ordered to deduct the fine of Rs 10000 from the salary of Dr. Karamjit Singh in two installments and to deposit it in the government treasury.
