Arrest Made at Chandigarh Residence, MLA to be Presented in Jalalabad Court Soon
JALALABAD: Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira was apprehended from his residence in Chandigarh's Sector 5, marking a significant development as he faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The arrest was executed by a Punjab Police team, arriving at Khaira's residence at 5 am, amid notable discussions.
After a heated exchange, Sukhpal Singh Khaira was taken into custody. A video capturing the event has circulated, and the Punjab Police is set to present Khaira in the court today. Authorities in Jalalabad have cited an old NDPS case against the Congress MLA as the grounds for his arrest. Khaira will soon be produced in the Jalalabad court to face legal proceedings related to this case.
The Arrest follows an ongoing investigation into an older drug case dating back to 2015, where Sukhpal Khaira has been implicated. The Current arrest is based on a report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), with involvement from two Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs). While Khaira vehemently contests the charges, asserting their falsehood, he has previously obtained relief from the Supreme Court concerning this matter.
