Sidhu Moosewala’s Father Balkaur Singh to Contest Punjab Assembly Elections 2027: Nearly three years after the tragic death of Punjabi singer and political figure Sidhu Moosewala, his father, Balkaur Singh, has announced his intention to enter electoral politics. Singh declared that he will contest the 2027 Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, stating his decision stems from a desire to "enter the system" and continue the fight for justice for his late son.
Addressing the media persons ahead of the 3rd death anniversary of Sidhu Moosewala, Balkaur Singh said, “I will not rest until those responsible for my son’s murder are brought to justice. I will try to enter the system and bring justice to my son.”
Sidhu Moosewala, a popular artist known for his bold lyrics and rising political influence, was shot dead in broad daylight in May 2022. His murder shocked fans worldwide and raised serious questions about law and order in Punjab. Despite multiple arrests and a continuing investigation, Moosewala’s family has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the pace and transparency of the legal proceedings.
Balkaur Singh, who has led several protests and spoken out at political forums since his son’s death, believes entering politics is the only way to create meaningful change.
Singh has not yet disclosed which political party he will represent or if he plans to run as an independent. However, his entry is expected to make significant waves in Punjab’s political landscape, especially among the youth and Moosewala’s vast fanbase, many of whom view the singer as a symbol of resistance and truth.
The 2027 elections are still two years away, but Balkaur Singh’s announcement has already set the stage for a high-stakes political journey, one born out of grief but driven by resolve.
