Punjab Blackout War Mock Drill Latest News: Punjab is bracing for a planned mock drill on June 3 in four border states—Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier, it was scheduled to be held tomorrow, however, due to administrative reasons, it got postponed.
The exercise, aimed at testing civil defense preparedness, comes in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Indian Armed Forces' Operation Sindoor, launched on May 6-7, 2025, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The mock drill, ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), follows days of cross-border skirmishes, including Pakistani drone and missile attacks on Indian cities, which were intercepted by India’s defense systems.
The mock drill in Punjab, along with similar exercises in the other states, is designed to simulate wartime conditions, ensuring power grid resilience and coordination among agencies in the event of retaliatory airstrikes or missile attacks.
Residents in the affected states are urged to stay indoors, avoid panic, and comply with instructions such as switching off external lights during the drill. Authorities have emphasized that the exercise is precautionary, not a signal of imminent war, despite recent ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
