Punjab Weather Update IMD heatwave red alert latest news: In a major development, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Tuesday issued a red alert across the 6 districts in Punjab. The temperature across the state has been rising and people are finding it difficult to roam around in the afternoon hours.
However, the IMD has also advised people to avoid going outside during the afternoon hours as it may lead to severe heatwave conditions.
According to information, the IMD has issued a red alert for a severe heat wave in Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, and Mansa while an orange alert for a heatwave to severe heatwave has been issued across the other parts of Punjab.
IMD had also issued a red alert for even today, May 28, in Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Moga, Mansa, Barnala and Sangrur.
While the red alert predicts a severe heatwave, the orange alert predicts severe heatwave conditions at isolated pockets for 2 days. This might result in rising temperatures and heat-illness symptoms in people who would either be exposed to the sun for a prolonged period or doing heavy work.
Therefore, people have been advised to avoid heat exposure and stay cool. People have been cautioned to maintain hydration and drink sufficient water even if they are not thirsty.
