SGPC Approves 1,386.47 Crore rupees Budget for 2025-26 Amid Protests Over Takht Jathedar Appointments, Latest News: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today presented an annual budget of 1,386.47 crore rupees for the 2025-26 financial year, reflecting a 10% increase from the 1,260.97 crore rupees budget for 2024-25.
SGPC General Secretary Sher Singh Mand tabled the proposed budget, detailing the organization's income and expenditure, which was subsequently approved by the general house at Teja Singh Samundri Hall.
The budget approval process, however, took place amid protests by Damdami Taksal and other Sikh organizations, who opposed the alleged arbitrary removal and appointment of Takht Jathedars.
Led by Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh 'Dhuma,' the protestors were reportedly prevented from reaching the SGPC headquarters at the Golden Temple Complex.
Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa stated that the demonstration was a peaceful protest against the SGPC's recent decisions, which he described as 'anti-Panthic' regarding the removal and appointment of Takht Jathedars.
