3 months deadline set by CM Bhagwant Mann to make Punjab drug free latest news: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has declared a crusade against the scourge of drugs in a historical decision, challenging Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to turn Punjab into a drug-free state in the next three months.

At a meeting of senior police and administrative authorities, Mann reenforced the zero-tolerance stand of the state government towards drugs. He reaffirmed confidence in the rich legacy of Punjab Police in combating belligerent law and order situations and had hoped they would continue with the tradition by obtaining the active assistance and support of the public.

Mann also made a public declaration to set up special courts so that the trial of narcotic cases can be speedily held and culprits brought to justice. He guaranteed that no lack of finances would be allowed in this virtuous mission and expressed his fullest cooperation with the police and civil administration.

Preventive strategies will be employed in schools and colleges to ensure that the young generation is kept away from getting addicted to drugs. Mann also emphasized ending the supply chain of drugs and locking up the dealers. He added that the families of the peddlers as well as peddlers themselves would be kept away from government subsidies like free power and water to discourage the criminal activities.

The Chief Minister used the case of Narangwal village as an example, where the ill-gotten house of a drug smuggler was recently demolished. A library is to be built on the spot where the house stood, revamping the site from a drugs hub to a knowledge sharing center.

Mann assured field officers that there would be no hurdles in their way to combat the drug menace. He underscored Punjab's previous success in eradicating militancy and was confident that the officers would be instrumental in curbing the drug issue.

The Chief Minister issued a call for an active intervention, with micro-level planning and implementation. The police officers were asked to create a situation by which there is no availability of drugs within a period of three months. The Chief Minister further stressed the value of timely submission of challans and chemical analyses in NDPS cases and holistic investigations into the deaths due to drug overdose.

Stringent action will be meted out against police officials who are engaged in drug use or promotion. Properties of convicted drug smugglers will be confiscated, and illegal properties will be razed to the ground. Mann also ordered the identification of drug hotspots and frequent operations in these spots.

The Chief Minister requested Deputy Commissioners to visit all de-addiction, rehabilitation, and OOAT centers from time to time and provide them with proper manpower and infrastructure. He also stated that courses against drug addiction would be introduced in school syllabuses and compensation from the CM Relief Fund in case of drug overdose fatalities.

Mann stressed the need for a concerted drive by all the departments, i.e., School Education, Sports, Health, Employment, and Skill Development, to effectively deal with the drug menace. He advocated monthly mass communication campaigns against drugs, comprising public meetings, seminars, cycle rallies, human chains, sports events, and skill development activities.

Cabinet Ministers Harpal Cheema, Aman Arora, Dr. Balbir Singh, Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, and Laljit Singh Bhullar also attended the meeting.
