He has appealed to all Punjabis to maintain peace

NEW-DELHI: The Statement of National Minorities Commission Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura regarding the sacrilege matter has come to the fore. He has appealed to all Punjabis to maintain peace.

Iqbal Singh Lalpura said that incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji are happening in Punjab for the last 50 years and most of the Sikhs live inside Punjab. He said, “I have requested and sent a letter to the Punjab government that the cases should be seriously investigated. Wherever the culprits is, no matter which religion they belongs to, Immediate action should be taken against them."

Iqbal Singh Lalpura said that these incidents of sacrilege have hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community and the people. He said that people should have fear of law. To prevent such incidents, the government have to notice where is the weakness and plan to solve it.

He told that a letter has been written by the Commission to the Punjab Government to give details of the complete investigation of all the incidents that took place in the last 45 years. Apart from this, it should also be told that how many culprits have been punished in these cases, how many cases have been filed against them. He has appealed to the government to enact a strict law against the culprits.

Regarding the conversion of 'Guru Ghar to Buddha Sthan' in Arunachal Pradesh, he told that he has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh seeking a report. Iqbal Singh Lalpura said, "We have written a letter to the Chief Secretary. Arunachal Pradesh government has also been told to take the matter seriously. That is the place of Sikhs, it is our job to preserve their image and preserve the history, it is the responsibility of the governments of our states."
