JK News, Roads Blocked, Cloud Burst hit Doda, Rain Alert in Jammu Latest News: Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhalesa area of Doda district was hit by a cloudburst on Tuesday, amid heavy rainfall across the Union Territory, according to India TV.
Continuous heavy rainfall across Doda district has triggered landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, leading to the closure of several link roads as well as stretches of the national highway, according to sources.
At least one person is reported dead in a flood triggered by the cloud burst, CNBC reported citing News18.
According to the India TV report, traffic along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was brought to a standstill in the UT’s Ramban district due to multiple landslides.
Several parts of the highway remain blocked as shooting stones continue to pose a threats to commuters.
Meanwhile, rising water levels in the Tawi River are eroding banks near Nikki Tawi area, causing a potential danger to the adjacent houses. All rivers in the region are swollen.
JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said, “The situation in many parts of Jammu province is quite serious. I’ll be taking the next available flight from Srinagar to Jammu to personally monitor the developing situation. In the mean time, instructions have been issued to place additional funds at the disposal of the DCs to cover emergency restoration work and other exigencies.”
Chief Minister, earlier today held a meeting today to review flood mitigation measures at Jammu in view of incessant rains. He has directed the officers to maintain high alert and take all necessary measures as rain continues to lash the region.
IMD issues a very heavy rain alert in JK
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in the southern districts of the UT, predicting very heavy rainfall, while the northern districts remain under an orange alert with heavy rain predictions.
Rainfall is expected to continue in the southern districts of the UT for the next few days.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Opens Emergency Helpline Number:
Divisional Commissioner Jammu has opened helpline numbers for emergencies due to the prevailing situation in the region.
The Divisional Commissioner has urged residents and visitors to stay away from riverbanks & flood-prone areas.
“In light of medium to heavy rainfall forecasted in Jammu Division for next 40 hrs, water levels of River Basantar, Tawi, & Chenab are currently at *Alert Level*. As precautionary measure, residents & visitors are strongly advised to stay away from riverbanks & flood prone areas,” Divisional Commissioner Jammu said.
