Punjab Police has confirmed that the suspects were part of a Pakistan-backed Khalistan Zindabad Force terror module. "This module is responsible for grenade attacks on police establishments in Punjab's border areas," said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). "The encounter was carried out within the jurisdiction of Puranpur Police Station, Pilibhit, by a coordinated effort between Punjab and Uttar Pradesh police. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire terror network," he added.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar lauded the operation, describing it as a "daring" act and an excellent example of inter-state police coordination.
This encounter follows a spate of attacks targeting police facilities in Punjab. The Bangar police post in Gurdaspur was attacked with a grenade last Friday.
