Record-Breaking Low Temperatures Prompt Weather Department's Rain Alert

Punjab Weather Update: In an unusual winter twist, Punjab experienced a significant drop in temperatures as the mercury plummeted below three degrees Celsius on Thursday, marking the coldest day this winter season. Ludhiana recorded a bone-chilling minimum temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius, a stark 3.7 degrees below the normal average. Similarly, Patiala and Bathinda experienced temperatures of 4.8 and 4.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, with readings below the seasonal norms.

The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting an escalation in the cold wave across Punjab in the forthcoming days. A weather alert has been issued for light to moderate rain in the districts of Majha, Doaba, and the East Malwa region for the next two days. Additionally, residents are cautioned about dense fog affecting visibility in most Punjab districts over a three-day period starting Friday, with projections of visibility dropping below 50 meters in the most affected areas.

Faridkot: 4.2 degrees Celsius
Gurdaspur: 6.0 degrees Celsius

Jalandhar: 3.7 degrees Celsius
Ferozepur: 4.5 degrees Celsius

Maximum Temperatures Recorded

Samarala recorded the highest temperature at 23.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday, providing a notable contrast to the chilly minimums. The daytime temperatures in key cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Jalandhar, and Bathinda ranged between 20.2 and 22.6 degrees Celsius.
