
Chaos in Chandigarh, Mohali After Sudden Change in Weather
Punjab, Mohali, Chandigarh Weather Update latest news: For the past few days, the heat has been continuously rising in Punjab. An orange alert for a heatwave has been issued for both Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday evening, a rise of 0.2°C was recorded. The average maximum temperature in the state has been noted as 2.6°C above normal.
However, there is a possibility of light rain from May 24, which could provide some relief. According to the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, the temperature in Bathinda touched 47.5°C on Thursday, making it the highest temperature of the season. The department has recorded a severe heatwave in Bathinda and a heatwave in Faridkot.
Additionally, 12 mm of rain was recorded in Rupnagar on Wednesday evening. Many districts of the state experienced strong winds and dusty storms in the evening, leading to a slight drop in temperatures.
Chaos in Chandigarh, Mohali After Sudden Change in Weather:
A sudden change in weather on Wednesday evening caused havoc in Chandigarh and Mohali, leading to the uprooting of trees, waterlogging, malfunctioning traffic lights, and traffic jams.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the region was hit by rain accompanied by winds reaching up to 56 km/h and a dust storm. A rainfall of 22.6 mm was recorded in the evening, and hailstorms were also reported in several areas.
Strong winds caused tree branches to fall, and a large branch blocked a road in Sector 34, resulting in a major traffic jam. The Municipal Corporation told The Tribune that over 30 complaints were received about broken branches and uprooted trees. Workers have been assigned to clear these obstructions.
The rain also caused waterlogging in multiple areas. The sudden change in weather was attributed to the rising temperatures over the past few days. As per reports, a cyclone formed over Haryana, drawing moisture from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

May 22:
Orange Alert: Issued for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Moga, Muktsar Sahib, Barnala, Bathinda, and Mansa districts. The heatwave effect will be observed during both day and night.
Yellow Alert: Issued for Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Mohali, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.
May 23:
Orange Alert: Issued for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, and Mansa districts. The effect will be observed both day and night.
Yellow Alert: Issued for Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Barnala, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Mohali, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.
May 24:
Yellow Alert issued for Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Mohali, which border Himachal Pradesh. A warning has been issued for strong winds and rain accompanied by thunder.
May 25:
Warning issued for strong winds and storms in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Mohali, Patiala, Nawanshahr, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, Moga, and Bathinda.
