Patiala Villages Transfer to Mohali Latest News Today: In a move aimed at streamlining governance and enhancing local administration, the Punjab Government has redefined district boundaries, transferring 10 villages from Rajpura Tehsil of Patiala district to Banur Sub-Tehsil in SAS Nagar (Mohali).
The official gazette notification, issued on May 20, 2025, cites the legal provisions under the Punjab Land Revenue Act (1887) and the Registration Act (1908) as the basis for the reorganization.
The affected villages include:
Manakpur
Khera Gajju
Urna
Changera
Ucha Khera
Gurditpura
Hadayatpura
Lehlan
This change is expected to bring greater administrative cohesion and could lead to better public service delivery for the residents. It also reflects the state government's ongoing efforts to decentralize power and bring governance closer to the people.
Sources in the Revenue Department suggest the move followed long-standing demands from local populations for improved connectivity and services, which were reportedly more accessible through SAS Nagar than Patiala.
The notification, signed by Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Verma, came into effect immediately upon its publication.
