Punjab Government to lay sewerage system & set up water treatment plants in villages: Tript Bajwa

The Punjab Government has decided to lay sewerage system & set up water treatment plants in villages to end the long lasting problem of sewerage water logging and disposal. The Rural Development Minister Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa disclosed this here after handing over Rs 55 lakh cheque to the Cabinet Minister Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu for laying sewerage system in his native  village 'Kakarwal' which falls in Dhuri constituency of district Sangrur.

The Public Works Department Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla was also present on the occasion. Mr. Tript Bajwa said that this is the first instalment of Rs 55 lakh whereas total cost of this project would be one and a half crore. He said that Mr. Navjot Sidhu had submitted a detailed project report for laying sewerage system and treatment plant in his native village. The Minister assured that this project would be completed by the end of this year.

Mr. Bajwa said that Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Department has decided to go for the all round development of the state’s villages by laying sewerage system and treatment plants. The Minister said that in the first phase this project would be implemented in five villages of every block and later on this would be extended. The Rural Development Minister said that earlier he directed all the departmental officers to study the development model of Haripur & Seechewal villages to replicate it in other villages also.

After visiting these villages the departmental officers and the Panchayati Raj engineers have prepared a proposal based on the developmental model of these villages with minor changes in the projects. The Minister further said that the department has also decided to plant trees near the village ponds where the treatment plants to be set up and the treated water to be used for water these plants and other irrigation purposes.
