Punjab-Haryana Water Dispute, latest news: In the ongoing water dispute between Punjab and Haryana over the release of water from the Bhakra-Nangal project, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) State President Rampal Majra on Wednesday alleged that Punjab has not released Haryana’s share of water and has reduced it to just 4,000 cusecs, leading to a drinking water crisis in the state.
Majra made these statements after meeting the Governor of Haryana.
He further said that they have staged protests across Haryana and met with the Governor regarding the issue. The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) also approached the High Court, which ruled in favor of Haryana, but neither the Centre nor Punjab took any action.
He stated that Punjab does not have faith in the federal structure.
Majra added that while Punjab is celebrating today, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has been wiped out in Delhi and weakened in Punjab as well, is showing double standards despite calling itself the “guardian of water.”
He also took a jibe at the AAP, accusing it of hypocrisy.
He went on to say that the Haryana government too has remained weak.
“Neither the Centre nor Haryana took any steps in this matter, and if we analyze the situation, the BJP has also been responsible and ineffective, which is why Haryana is not getting its due share of water.”
He further said that Punjab has challenged the federal structure and regarding the planned road blockades, a decision will be taken in the meeting today — if Punjab does not release water, protests will be held.
