Breaking: Takht Patna Sahib declares Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Giani Tek Singh as Tankhaiya; Sukhbir Badal issued summons.
Patna Sahib, May 21, 2025 – In a significant religious move, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Giani Tek Singh have been declared Tankhaiya (guilty of religious misconduct) by the Five Pyare Sahiban of Takht Sri Patna Sahib for allegedly hurting the sanctity and dignity of the Takht.
Tankhaiya is a Sikh religious term meaning someone who is officially disciplined or censured by Sikh religious authorities for misconduct.
The decision came after a meeting of religious leaders at the Takht Sahib, where serious concerns were raised over their conduct.
According to Babushahi, the assembly reviewed the activities of Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Giani Tek Singh, who have been associated with Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
During the meeting, the Pyare Sahiban addressed the unauthorized issuance of a Hukamnama (official order) by these individuals that contradicted previously established orders issued by Takht Patna Sahib (Ref: Tapas/5/H/2022 dated 11/09/2022, Tapas/10/H/2022 dated 25/11/2022, Tapas/14/H/2022 dated 09/12/2022), the report said.
The Five Pyare Sahiban, also known as Panch Pyare, found Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Giani Tek Singh guilty of violating the dignity, traditions, code of conduct, and sovereignty of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib, leading to their declaration as Tankhaiya (religious offenders) under Sikh religious law.
It has also emerged that Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal allegedly interfered in the matter and acted as a conspirator. He has been summoned to appear in person before the Five Pyare Sahiban at Takht Patna Sahib within 10 days to explain his involvement.
Failure to comply with this summons may result in strict religious consequences in accordance with Sikh tradition, the report said.
Additionally, as reported in Babushahi, the Management Committee and all members of the Administrative Board of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib, have been explicitly instructed not to follow the unauthorized order issued by Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Giani Tek Singh, which called the Board to Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The Pyare Sahiban have refused to recognize this directive and have cautioned against any efforts to undermine the authority of Takht Patna Sahib.
However, the exact nature of the misconduct attributed to the two accused has not been disclosed.
