Punjab Public Holiday in School Tomorrow, Municipal Elections 2025: A public holiday has been declared across Punjab on December 21, 2024, in light of the upcoming municipal elections. The announcement was made by the Election Commission, citing polling for five municipal corporations, 41 municipal councils, and several ward-wise by-elections scheduled on the same day.

Holiday for Government Offices and Schools

According to the notification issued under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, all government offices within the jurisdiction of municipal bodies conducting elections will remain closed on Saturday, December 21. Furthermore, government employees residing in areas where elections are being held but working outside these zones will be granted special leave to cast their votes.

The state Education Department has also declared a holiday in both government and private schools located in the districts involved in the polling process.

Smooth Electoral Process

The holiday is intended to ensure smooth conduct of the elections and provide citizens with the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. Authorities have urged voters in the respective municipal bodies to come out in large numbers and exercise their right to vote.
