Chandigarh News : Participating in sports is the nature of Punjabis and the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Singh Maan is working diligently to promote it. The ongoing block level competitions under the season-3 of Games Watan Punjab are the latest proof of this.
The main purpose of organizing such tournaments is to make Punjab number 1 again in terms of sports. This initiative is growing every year. This time the sports of cycling, baseball and taekwondo have also been included. A total of Rs 9 crore prizes will also be distributed to the winners. By engaging in sports, where the youth stay away from evils like drugs, they can make their identity as a good citizen in the society.
Recently, in the 63rd National Open Athletics Championship held in Bengaluru, the Punjab team won the gold medal in the mixed relay race of 4x400 meters for the first time. The team consisted of Jashandeep Singh, Jagmeet Singh, Twinkle Chaudhary and Gup Kaur. The players said that earlier the athletics trap was not in good condition, due to which they also suffered injuries, but due to the new synthetic track, their preparation has improved.
Not only this, most of the players in the Indian team that won the medal for the second consecutive time in the Paris Olympic Games were from Punjab. The Punjab government has announced to give Rs 1 crore to every Punjabi player in the team. The Punjab government has already honored sportspersons who have earned good reputation in sports by giving them high posts.
It may be mentioned that Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh also praised for doing many firsts to promote sports in Punjab after paying obeisance at Darbar Sahib Amritsar after returning from Olympic Games. He had said in a conversation with the media, "I had demanded a hockey stadium in my village, which has been completed. Great efforts are being made towards sports. The young guys coming will be excited when they see that we get so much love and respect.”
