Punjab Amritsar Golden Temple Bomb Threat Case Latest news Today: Security concerns around the Golden Temple in Amritsar have intensified after multiple bomb threats were issued over the past five days. In a significant breakthrough, Amritsar Police detained a 24-year-old software engineer from Faridabad, Haryana, identified as Shubham Dubey, in connection with the threats. However, the situation grew more alarming when another threatening email was received even after Dubey’s arrest.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the arrest and said Dubey, who had previously worked in two tech companies and is currently unemployed, is under strict interrogation. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Dubey allegedly used the dark web and anonymized email services to issue threats, making it difficult to trace the exact source of the messages.
Threats Beyond Punjab
Commissioner Bhullar revealed that the threatening emails were not limited to the Golden Temple alone. Similar threats have been sent to schools and courts in Delhi, Chief Ministers, Members of Parliament, and institutions in Tamil Nadu. Interestingly, the emails briefly mention the Golden Temple, but the majority of the content refers to incidents and political issues in Tamil Nadu, including references to the DMK party and South Indian political figures.
This has led investigators to suspect that the use of the Golden Temple’s name may be a diversion tactic, potentially to draw national attention to Tamil Nadu-centric issues. Authorities are now working closely with officials from Tamil Nadu to explore possible links.
SGPC Raises Red Flag After More Threats
Despite Dubey’s detention, a fresh threat email was received Friday evening. Chief Secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Kulwant Singh Mann, expressed serious concern and demanded that the police and intelligence agencies escalate their investigation.
"Receiving a threat after the arrest indicates that there may be more people involved. The Police Commissioner should take this matter with the utmost seriousness," Mann urged.
Earlier, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami had stated that the threats could either be a form of mischief or part of a larger conspiracy, and he demanded a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Ongoing Investigation
Police Commissioner Bhullar noted the technical complexity of the case. "The emails appear to have been sent via the dark web with spoofed IP addresses from different countries. Earlier emails originated from Outlook accounts, while the latest ones were sent via Hotmail, adding to the difficulty in tracing the origin," he explained.
Since July 14, SGPC has received six threatening emails, all mentioning the use of RDX to target the Golden Temple. These prompted intensified search operations and tightened security across the temple complex and adjoining areas.
Investigators Exploring All Angles
Law enforcement agencies are now trying to determine whether the threats are the act of a lone cyber mischief-maker, a radicalized individual, or part of a larger, coordinated conspiracy. Interrogation of Shubham Dubey may yield further clues about other potential players or networks involved in the ongoing cyber threats.
The case has now become a multi-state, multi-agency investigation with national security implications. Authorities have assured the public that all angles, including cyberterrorism, are being thoroughly probed to ensure the sanctity and safety of religious and public institutions.
