The extreme heatwave has made daily life difficult, particularly for children who continue to commute to school in harsh conditions.

Traditionally, the summer vacation holidays in Punjab are announced in the third week of May and extend until July 1. However, with the temperature showing no signs of dipping, the officials are mulling over an earlier-than-usual closure of schools to ensure the well-being of students. In the meantime, the schools may be permitted to conduct online classes for few days. 

According to reports from various parts of the state, a significant number of children have already started experiencing heat-related illnesses, with scorching heat exacerbating the situation. While a formal notification has not yet been issued, sources within the Punjab Education Department confirm that the situation is under active review. 

With weather forecasts predicting no immediate relief, an official decision from the government is expected within the next few days. Until then, school authorities and parents are being urged to take precautions and limit outdoor exposure during peak heat hours.
