Kashmiri students from other states pour into Mohali after Captain assures protection

In a very appreciable step, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has assured and offered protection to Kashmiri students not only across Punjab, but also across nation. This comes after a Kashmiri student was attacked in a college in Mohali. Masroor Ahmed, 18, of Anantnag region in Kashmir, was attacked in his college campus in Mohali, by an unidentified assailiant. Student leader Shehla Rashid had reported the incident by tweeting about it.

Replying to her tweet, former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah addressed a tweet to Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh and requested his intervention “to look into the matter urgently and take necessary step”. Captain did respond to Abdullah and said that he has got the matter looked into, and preliminary investigation did not find it to be a hate crime, as being reported. He assured necessary action into the matter.

Addressing the media, Captain Amarinder Singh said “I assure full protection. They have nothing to do with the Pulwama attack”. There are around 4000 Kashmiri students in various institutions of Punjab. After Punjab CM’s reassurance, around 125 Kashmiri students have arrived in Mohali, to take shelter against the discriminatory attacks. Haryana. Around 70 students had arrived in Mohali from Dehradun and Ambala yesterday. According to sources, all the students have been put up at safe places, with coordination among Jammu and Kashmir Students Organisation and a local religious body. Gurdwaras have offered them food, shelter and safety.
