Giani Harpreet Singh's Resignation Latest News: In a decisive move, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami has rejected the resignation of Giani Harpreet Singh, the jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, amidst mounting pressure from sections of the Sikh community.

Giani Harpreet Singh tendered his resignation on Wednesday following a directive from the Panj Singh Sahiban, including himself, to expel Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Virsa Singh Valtoha for 10 years. Valtoha had been accused of character assassination of the Sikh clergy. The jathedar’s resignation was seen as a response to continued personal attacks, including threats to his family, and allegations of him being a "broker" for the RSS-BJP.

However, SGPC president Dhami turned down the resignation, emphasizing the importance of Giani Harpreet Singh's leadership. "The SGPC has always respected the edicts of the Panj Singh Sahiban and will continue to do so. Giani Harpreet Singh has provided commendable service as Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, and we cannot afford to lose his leadership at this critical juncture," Dhami stated.

Describing the current situation as a "community crisis," Dhami urged unity and asked that disagreements be addressed internally rather than through public statements. "We need Giani Harpreet Singh’s valuable services now and in the future. I have personally conveyed to him that his resignation is not accepted," he added.

In response to Giani Harpreet Singh’s concerns about continued attacks, Dhami called on Virsa Singh Valtoha and others to refrain from making inflammatory remarks. 

Giani Harpreet Singh, while announcing his resignation, had expressed deep frustration over Valtoha’s ongoing personal attacks and threats, which he described as beyond tolerance. He also criticized the SAD’s social media wing for allegedly shielding Valtoha. His resignation had sparked reactions across the Sikh leadership, with Akal Takht jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh even threatening to quit if the resignation was accepted.

The situation remains tense, but with Dhami’s decision to reject the resignation, the SGPC hopes to prevent further division within the community.
