SGPC Plans Protest Against Kangana Ranaut's Film Emergency

The SGPC has urged the public to join their efforts to oppose the film, which they claim undermines Sikh history and values.

SGPC Plans Protest Against Kangana Ranaut's Film Emergency: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced plans to protest against Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency, which is set to release on January 17. The SGPC alleges that the film portrays an anti-Sikh agenda, downplays the Sikh massacre and genocide, and aims to defame the Sikh community.

The SGPC, in a statement, called the film a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and foster negative perceptions about Sikhs. Members of the committee and workers will stage protests tomorrow at various cinema halls in Punjab and other cities where the film is scheduled to be screened.

Protest locations include:

  • Chanda Tara Cinema (near bus stand): SGPC staff will assemble at 9 a.m.
  • Mall of Amritsar (Alpha One): Dharma Prachar Committee members will gather at 9 a.m.
  • Trillium Mall (near Darbar Sahib): SGPC workers will arrive at 9 a.m.

The SGPC has urged the public to join their efforts to oppose the film, which they claim undermines Sikh history and values.

Controversial Depiction in Emergency

Emergency, directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut, depicts the turbulent political events during India’s Emergency period. However, the SGPC has strongly objected to its portrayal of the Sikh community, accusing the film of misrepresenting historical events with malicious intent.
