Punjab Cabinet Approves Transfer of Four Health Institutions to BFUHS

The institutions involved are Civil Hospital (Badal, Muktsar), Civil Hospital (Sri Khadur Sahib, Tarn Taran), Community Health Centre (Jalalabad), and the Tertiary Cancer Care Centre (Fazilka).

Under the new jurisdiction, BFUHS will cover all expenses, including salaries and administration. While the university is authorised to hire its own staff, existing doctors and personnel will remain under the Department of Health and Family Welfare and will eventually be redeployed according to department policy.

The university gains control over all buildings and equipment, with the permission to use these facilities for research and new courses. However, BFUHS must ensure these institutions maintain health services equivalent to a 100-bed hospital.

Furthermore, user charges must align with state government patterns. A notification issued by Kumar Rahul, Principal Secretary (Health), clarifies that the state will continue funding national and state welfare programmes like the Janani Suraksha Yojana and Mata Kaushalya Yojana despite the transfer.
