Who Is Amritpal Singh Mehron, Booked in the Murder of Punjabi Influencer Kamal Kaur?
Who Is Amritpal Singh Mehron? Amritpal Singh Mehron, who claims to be the head of a radical vigilante group, has come under the spotlight following the murder of Punjabi social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, in Bathinda, Punjab.
In a video that surfaced online on Friday — days after the murder — Amritpal Singh Mehron alleged that Kamal was killed due to the "immoral and vulgar" content she posted on social media. He further claimed that her use of the surname 'Kaur' was disrespectful and that her content defamed Sikh values.
Amritpal, aged 30, is a bike mechanic from Mehron village in Punjab's Moga district. Coincidentally, Kamal Kaur was also 30 years old. Amritpal leads a group called "Qaum De Rakhe" (Protectors of the Community), which is reportedly involved in moral policing and is said to align with Nihang Sikh traditions. The group is widely regarded as a radical vigilante outfit.
He has a considerable following on social media, with over 351,000 and 398,000 followers across two Instagram accounts.
In 2022, Amritpal contested the Tarn Taran seat in the Punjab Assembly elections on a Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) ticket, but lost. His election affidavit stated that he had completed Class 12 in Moga and obtained a diploma in diesel mechanics.
Amritpal has a prior criminal record as well. In 2021, he was booked in Barnala for allegedly threatening a music producer over the posting of obscene content.
In the latest video, Amritpal issued a fresh threat to another content creator, Deepika Luthra, warning her to stop posting "vulgar content" or face the same fate as Kamal Kaur.
Speaking to the media, Deepika Luthra said she had deleted the videos in question, apologized to Amritpal, and would now seek police protection.
In the murder case of Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, police have arrested two associates of Amritpal — Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjeet Singh. Her body was found in a car parked outside Adesh Hospital in Bathinda on Wednesday night, after locals reported a foul smell.
Police sources revealed that Kamal had been threatened by Amritpal Singh Mehron over her social media content. Additionally, around seven months ago, she had also received a death threat from gangster Arsh Dalla, allegedly for the same reason.
Kamal, who had over 383,000 followers on Instagram, was a popular social media personality. She had reportedly left Ludhiana for Bathinda to attend an event before going missing.
