IMD Chandigarh Issues Yellow Alert for Punjab Districts Ahead of Thunderstorm and Surface Wind
Punjab weather updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, has issued yellow alerts for several districts of Punjab for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds on June 15.
According to IMD Chandigarh, eight districts — Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Patiala — are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds for June 15. These weather conditions are likely to persist from June 16 through June 19.
As per the latest forecast, IMD Chandigarh has predicted moderate rainfall of 5–15 mm/hr in Pathankot and Gurdaspur, along with moderate thunderstorms and maximum surface wind speeds between 41–61 kmph, valid till 10:30 PM on June 15.
In the past 24 hours, as updated at 8:30 AM today, Patiala recorded the lowest temperature at 25.8°C. Rainfall of 0.9 mm, 5.5 mm, and 0.5 mm was reported in Chandigarh City, Patiala, and Fazilka, respectively.
On Sunday, the IMD forecasted light to moderate rainfall at some/isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) over Northwest India from June 15 to 21. Additionally, thundersqualls with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, are expected over Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana on June 15, and over Rajasthan during June 15–17.
