This approach not only cracks down on drug smugglers but also focuses on rehabilitation.
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has once again demonstrated its unwavering resolve in the battle against drugs. On Day 135 of the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, Punjab Police achieved another major success by arresting 109 drug smugglers and seizing 2.7 kg heroin, 1.5 kg opium, 42 kg poppy husk, and Rs 7.18 lakh drug money.
With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested in just 135 days has reached 21,938, proving that the Punjab Government’s aggressive campaign is delivering historic results.
A Statewide Operation Backed by Strong Political Will
This latest crackdown was executed on the direct orders of CM Bhagwant Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, with over 180 police teams and 1,300 personnel conducting 399 simultaneous raids across Punjab. The coordinated efforts led to the registration of 72 FIRs and the checking of 429 suspicious individuals—a clear indication of the scale and seriousness of the state’s anti-drug operations.
The campaign is being closely monitored by a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, ensuring transparency and accountability at every stage.
EDP Strategy: A Comprehensive Model for a Drug-Free Punjab
Under the guidance of CM Mann, the Punjab Government has adopted a three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP). This approach not only cracks down on drug smugglers but also focuses on rehabilitation. On Day 135 alone, 58 individuals were convinced to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, showcasing the government’s commitment to healing affected families while dismantling the drug trade.
