BBMB Water Issue Between Punjab and Haryana Latest News: In a significant legal development in the long-standing water-sharing dispute between Punjab and Haryana, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken serious note of Punjab’s review petition and issued a notice to the Haryana government, seeking a formal response.
The court has also demanded clarification from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) regarding the recent shift in its stand on water distribution. The bench questioned both BBMB and Haryana about the necessity of additional water allocation, asking them to justify their claims and policy stance.
This comes as a diplomatic win for the Punjab government, which has long maintained that its water rights are being unfairly compromised. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which governs Punjab, hailed the decision as a "turning point" in the state’s battle for rightful access to its natural resources.
"We will not let Punjab’s water be diverted illegally. We will fight for our rights on every platform, be it legal, political or public," said a senior AAP spokesperson.
Legal experts believe the High Court’s willingness to entertain Punjab’s review petition sets a precedent for a more nuanced re-examination of water-sharing policies in the region.
