The doctors' key demands include the reinstatement of the Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme.
Punjab Doctors Strike, OPD Services Latest News Today: In a significant escalation of their ongoing protest, over 2,500 government doctors in Punjab have extended their strike, leading to a complete shutdown of Outpatient Department (OPD) services across the state today. The decision follows an unsuccessful meeting between the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) and Health Minister Balbir Singh, where no resolution was reached regarding the doctors' demands.
The strike, which began on September 9, initially saw doctors suspending OPD services from 8 AM to 11 AM each day. However, after continued negotiations with the government failed, the doctors decided to take more drastic action. Today’s strike will see OPD services at civil and district hospitals, as well as other health centers, completely suspended.
Despite the OPD closure, emergency services, post-mortem examinations, and medicolegal work will continue without interruption, ensuring critical medical care remains available.
The doctors' key demands include the reinstatement of the Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme, improved security measures for healthcare workers, timely recruitment of medical officers to address the shortage in the state, and the release of pending arrears from the Central Pay Commission (CPC).
PCMSA President Dr. Akhil Sarin has warned that if their demands are not met soon, the complete suspension of health services across Punjab could begin on September 12, creating further challenges for patients.
