Punjab's Ludhiana AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi Death Latest News Today: Ludhiana AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi, aged 58, tragically died of a gunshot wound to the head at his residence in the Ghumar Mandi area late Friday night. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident might have occurred while Gogi was cleaning his licensed firearm, though the possibility of suicide has not been ruled out. The MLA was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine whether the fatal gunshot was accidental or intentional. Deputy Commissioner of Police Shubham Aggarwal stated that Gogi was reportedly handling his 25-bore pistol when the weapon discharged, leading to a fatal injury. The autopsy report is expected to provide more clarity on the circumstances of his death.
Gurpreet Gogi was a prominent political figure in Punjab, having previously served as a four-time Congress councillor in Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. In 2022, Gogi left Congress after a 22-year association to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), citing dissatisfaction with the lack of recognition for hard work within his former party. A first-time MLA, he had won the Ludhiana West seat by defeating two-time Congress MLA and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu by a margin of over 7,000 votes.
Hours before his death, Gogi had been actively engaged in public duties. He met with Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Seechewal to discuss the cleaning of Buddha Nullah. He also visited a temple in BRS Nagar following a theft incident, where he assured local residents of justice. (Punjab's Ludhiana AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi Death Latest News Today)
