Punjab: Young Kabaddi player found dead; villagers suspect drug overdose

On February 17, his neighbour, Jasdeep Singh Jassa, had also died due to a suspected overdose.

In what is suspected to be a case of drug overdose, a young kabaddi player was found dead in Udowal village of Mehatpur, in Jalandhar district, raising concerns about the growing drug menace in the region. Earlier, another youth from the neighbourhood had also died due to a suspected drug overdose.

In the latest case, villagers have claimed that the kabaddi player died due to a drug overdose. However, the police have not yet confirmed the cause of death.

According to the information received, Vansh had completed his Class 12 two years ago. He had been playing kabaddi since his school days and had participated in several tournaments.

The youth had gone from his home in Udowal to the nearby Baloki Khera Road area, where his body was found under suspicious circumstances. Passersby informed the village sarpanch and his family members after discovering the body.

Vansh is survived by his parents, a younger brother and a younger sister. The family did not file a complaint with the police and performed his last rites.

Manpreet Singh, a panch of Udowal village, said that Vansh was a talented player who had represented his school in numerous kabaddi tournaments. He added that Vansh completed his Class 12 two years ago and after he moved away from the school environment and teachers, he reportedly fell into drug use.

On February 17, his neighbour, Jasdeep Singh Jassa, had also died due to a suspected overdose, in connection with which a complaint was filed with the police.
