‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ is a major and sustained effort by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann–led government to eradicate the drug menace from the state through daily raids, the arrest of drug peddlers, and by convincing addicts to undergo de-addiction.

During the latest operation, the police recovered 1.2 kg of heroin, 2 kg of ganja, 519 intoxicant pills, and drug money amounting to rupees 18,300 from the arrested accused.

Over 100 police teams, comprising more than 900 personnel and supervised by 66 gazetted officers, carried out the 284 raids. Police teams also checked 301 suspicious persons during the day-long operation.

The Punjab government has formed a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to monitor the state’s fight against drugs. The Chief Minister has directed the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to work towards making Punjab a drug-free state.

Under its three-pronged Enforcement, De-addiction and Prevention (EDP) strategy, the Punjab Police, as part of the ‘De-addiction’ component, persuaded 29 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Friday.
