Influenza A H1N1 (Swine Flu) Detected in Ludhiana; Health Authorities Issue Guidelines for Prevention
Swine Flu Alert in Punjab: The Health Department in Punjab has heightened its surveillance following the confirmation of one case of Influenza A H1N1 (Swine Flu) in the state within the last six days. Nodal Officer Dr. Gagandeep Singh Garod reported that a female patient with swine flu symptoms was identified in Punjab during the month of December. The patient is currently receiving treatment at DMC Ludhiana and is reported to be in stable condition.
In response to the confirmed case, the Health Department has issued a letter to civil surgeons of all districts, principal medical colleges, and AIIMS, urging them to implement new guidelines for prevention. The precautionary measures include the establishment of flu corners in all districts, where paramedical staff is required to wear masks and gloves. Hospitals are instructed to ensure comprehensive logistics for handling H1N1 cases.
The Health Department has mandated the reporting of confirmed cases to the respective districts, along with a comprehensive list of all suspected individuals in both government and private hospitals. Dedicated flu corners will be set up in OPDs (Medical) for the identification and management of patients with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI). Ventilators are also advised to be readily available in isolation wards.
As a preventive measure, individuals belonging to vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, those with kidney, liver, and HIV conditions, are advised to avoid crowded places. The Health Department emphasizes the importance of collective efforts to contain the spread of swine flu and assures the public that all necessary steps are being taken to manage and control the situation effectively.
