Over 600 Indigo flights were cancelled across the country just yesterday.
IndiGo flight cancellation in Chandigarh: Punjab Civil Aviation Secretary Sonali Giri on Sunday said that due to the ongoing IndiGo airline's flight disruptions across the country, around 30 flights were cancelled, which impacted nearly 8,000 passengers.
She told news agency ANI that the Punjab Civil Aviation Department held a meeting with officials of IndiGo and other airlines, as well as the CISF.
A control room has been set up to resolve problems faced by passengers, and a helpline number has been issued through which affected passengers can check the status of their flights. She added that baggage-handling information can also be retrieved, and the luggage will be delivered to passengers at their homes.
“Approximately 30 flights were cancelled in the last 2-3 days, and today there were also 5 cancellations, about which the passengers were already informed. 7000-8000 passenger movements were impacted, but today's situation is much better,” Sonali Giri added.
She appreciated the passengers for handling the situation “carefully” and hailed the CISF for controlling the situation.
“The food and stay of the passengers were taken care of by the airline. And as well the accommodations..” she added.

Over 600 Indigo flights were cancelled across the country just yesterday. Protests by frustrated passengers in the airports across the nation have been seen over the past few days. In some airports, passengers, including elderly citizens and children, were left without water and forced to sleep on concrete in December's cold.
People missed important moments of their lives as they remained stuck at an airport. A couple was seen attending their own wedding reception virtually while the guests attended the reception at home.
In the wake of the widespread flight disruption, the government placed Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms in abeyance, which many called "arm-twisting" by the airline.
As devastation went on for several days, airfares of other airlines, including Air India, skyrocketed, prompting the centre to impose a nationwide cap on domestic economy-class airfares.

The disruptions continue for the seventh day straight today, with passengers continuing to be affected by delays, cancellations, and related issues.

At the core of all this chaos stands the centre's FDTL norms, which the airline completely failed to adjust itself to. The FDTL norms gave pilots increased rest time from the earlier 36 hours per week to 48 hours per week.
The rule was introduced last year in January 2024, and reports say that Indigo had almost two years to adjust itself as per the rules; however, its failure to do so has led to the historic flight disruption.
