BBMB, a pioneer organization in the field of Irrigation & Power performed exceptionally well in every sector during the year 2018-19

Chandigarh, 6th April'19 (Niel Bhalinder Singh):  BBMB, a pioneer organization in the field of Irrigation & Power performed exceptionally well in every sector during the year 2018-19. BBMB generated 8.12% more annual energy than the target fixed by the Central Electricity Authority during the last year with 97.95% cumulative machine availability of the generating units.

In order to cater to peak power requirement of farmers during the crop sowing season in the month of August, 2018, BBMB managed to run all six generating units of Dehar Power House simultaneously for one and a half hour daily the during peak hours, for the first time. BBMB is marching ahead towards modernization by upgrading its old systems. BBMB has commissioned sub-station automation system at 220kV Grid Substation at Barnala in October, 2018 and its remote operation from 220kV Grid Substation at Sangrur is being done successfully since then.

Other sub-stations of BBMB will be made man less in near future. In the second phase, work of sub-station automation of 220kV Grid Substations of BBMB at Hisar, Charkhi Dadri, Ballabhgarh and Samaypur with their remote operation from 400kV Grid Substation, BBMB, Bhiwani and State Load Despatch Centre complex at Chandigarh simultaneously has been undertaken. Old office filing system has been replaced with e-office which has reduced the use of paper also the process of disposing office files.

For tracking the status of pension papers of BBMB employees, ‘Pension Paper Software’ has been implemented. BBMB has also taken initiative for implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) based Information Technology (IT) solution in near future. BBMB has installed Roof Top Solar Power Plants on its office buildings. During the year 2018, BBMB added 260kWp of solar energy by installing 60kWp Roof-top  Solar Power Project at 220 kV sub-station at Jamalpur and 100 kWp Solar Roof-top  Power Project at 220 kV sub-station at Jalandhar, 80kWp at 220 kV sub-station at New Delhi and 20 kWp Roof Top Solar Power Project at 220 kV sub-station at Narela. Work of installation of roof top solar power plants on the remaining non-residential buildings has already been taken up in hand.  

Judicious  Reservoir Management, close monitoring and utilising inflows from the rivulets downstream of the dams in order to meet irrigation requirement during the monsoon season, BBMB saved 0.674 million acre feet water of the Satluj and Beas rivers which otherwise  would have gone downstream of the international border and stored this additional water in its reservoirs. BBMB successfully supplied Irrigation & Drinking water to partner States as per their demand.

Further, based on number of technical parameters, BBMB stored water upto 1393.30 ft in Pong Reservoir to avoid synchronization of any releases with the floods in rivulets downstream of the dams that ultimately prevented flooding of downstream areas in Punjab. BBMB successfully organized the first ‘International Conference on Sustainable Water Management’ at Chandigarh on 10-11 December, 2018 in which delegates from all around the world participated and shared their valuable experiences.

BBMB contributed towards environment protection by planting 37,400 plants in the catchments areas of its project stations last year. Encouraged by this success, BBMB is planning to carry out few lacs plantation in the current year in the catchment area of its projects in order to reduce sedimentation in its reservoirs. BBMB successfully organized Painting Competition on Energy Conservation and has been awarded two National Prizes for "Best State Nodal Officer Category" and "Best UT level Nodal Officer Category".

Participation from Haryana was historically high with 19.38 lac student, which was 22% of total National Participation. BBMB has been awarded best performing hydro power utility by the Central Board of Irrigation and Power and by the Independent Power Producers Association. We received award for ‘Best Maintained Project for Beas Dam at Pong and Beas Satluj Link Project’.

BBMB also bagged Rajbhasha Kirti Award from the Hon'ble Vice President of India for the implementation of Official Language. BBMB maintained its legacy in the Central Power Sector Units Sports Tournaments by capturing Gold Medals in Athletics, Volleyball, Kabaddi and Badminton and also the overall championship trophy. Sh.
