Mohali Launches Online Challan System to Stem Red Light Violations latest news: As part of a major initiative to improve traffic management and road safety, Mohali has introduced an online challan system to tackle red light jumping.
The system, launched by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at the Smart Control Room of the Sohana Police Station, is meant to make the issuing of challans more efficient and ensure better enforcement of traffic regulations.
The scheme, which includes the installation of 400 CCTV cameras at 20 strategic points in the city, is aimed at monitoring and recording cases of red light jumping. The recorded images will be used to automatically issue e-challans, which will be sent to the registered mobile numbers of the violators.
Chief Minister Mann underlined the significance of this project in enhancing road safety and minimizing traffic offenses. "Through the installation of this sophisticated surveillance system, we are working to make a safer place for all road users in Mohali," he stated at the inauguration ceremony.
The City Surveillance and Traffic Management System, which has encountered a number of delays, is now complete and likely to radically enhance traffic management in the city. The project, which is worth Rs 17.7 crore, is a joint endeavor of various government agencies, including the Punjab Police Housing Corporation, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, National Highways Authority of India, Municipal Corporation, and the Public Works Department.
The new system not only facilitates transparency and effectiveness in challan issuance but is also a deterrent to offenders of traffic rules. With this technology, Mohali will be the model city of traffic management and road safety for the entire region.
