Chandigarh, March 6: To ensure affordable housing government employees, Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday okayed allotment of land by Improvement Trusts and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for Employees Cooperative Group Housing Societies (CGHS) at reserve prices.

The scheme would be soon notified with complete details by the State Government for allotment of one acre of land for 40 employees on the pattern of Maharashtra. Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that with this decision, a long-pending demand of employees has been fulfilled. The Cabinet also gave its nod to reserve 3% of residential plots for the allotment of government employees by ULBs and Improvement Trusts.

Reservation would be provided to the employees of Punjab government, besides its Boards, Corporations, Punjab & Haryana High Court, officials of the apex institutions working under Cooperation Department of State Government like Markfed, Milkfed, Punjab State Cooperative Bank, Housefed etc., employees of Universities funded by Punjab Government (except private universities).

The applicant should have completed at least five years of regular service or should have retired within the last five years from the date of commencement of the scheme. Persons on deputation in Punjab from Government of India or any other state would not be eligible to apply under this scheme. Allotment would be made to those applicants who do not own any plot/flat in his/her name or in the name of his/her wife/husband or dependent.

The applicant should not have ever been allotted residential plot/house under discretionary quota or on the basis of preference in any scheme. The applicant would submit the application with date of regular joining/retirement duly certifying him being in service from the concerned Drawing & Disbursing Officer (DDO) of the department.
